Here’s an easy go-to setup for product photography, using a single speed light and a reflector.
Space is a luxury not many people can afford. In this short video segment, Jeff Rojas guides you through the process of using a single speed light and a reflector to take a dramatically lit product image.
Using a single Phottix Mitros+ with a Rogue XL Pro Lighting Kit set to a grid, Jeff positions his light at a 45-degree angle above the product he’s trying to photograph in order to create a rim light. Setting the main light to this angle allows you to create a rim light along the top of the camera and also illuminate the front of the camera itself. Because of the direction of light, this leaves an unwanted shadow casts on the lower half of the camera being photographed.
In order to bring back detail in those areas, Jeff positions a Rectangular Rogue Super Soft Silver Reflector underneath the main light in order to reflect back light into the shadow areas.
Product Photography does not have to be complicated. In this video, Jeff Rojas demonstrates how he is able to photograph products with a single Phottix Mitros+.
